Purpose of Summer Ceremonies

Haudenosaunee ceremonies are closely tied to food and the changing seasons. Summer ceremonies, such as the Green Bean Ceremony, give thanks to the Creator for the first harvests and bring the community together to share food and gratitude. Berry ceremonies, like the strawberry and raspberry ceremonies, honour the fruits of the season and express thanks for the gifts of the land. These traditions help maintain respect for food, the Creator, and the deep connection between people and nature.
